Everything That Has A Beginning Sort Of Has An End

I left work a bit early today, and caught the 5:00 PM matinee of Matrix: Revolutions. Continuing where the second movie left off, Revolutions provides us with further insights into the Wachowski brothers' bizarre vision of the future of our species:

  • Facing extinction under the onslaught of the machines, average humans will continue to dress like extras from Les Misérables, but our leaders will dress like members of Parliament Funkadelic

  • The last line of defense for human civilization? Straight out of a Japanese animation flick

I won't spoil the ending for anyone, but let's just say that rumors of a definitive ending to the story were greatly exaggerated.

On a slightly related note: I stayed home from work yesterday and caught the Internet distribution of the Paris Hilton sex tape.

I won't spoil the ending for everyone, but let's just say that Paris has put a down payment on a one-bedroom in Skankville.

Regarding this tagline they've been using about "everything that has a beginning has an end", I'm reminded of a line from Cocktail -- "Of course it's ending badly. Everything ends badly, otherwise it wouldn't end."

(Pardon any paraphrasing, but the concept certainly holds for sequels. particularly this trio)

At slightly further risk of spoiling the ending of the movie for somebody, I will say that the line about beginnings and endings figures prominently into the climatic scene of the movie. One popular misconception is that Keanu Reeves is the worst actor or actress in this movie. I still agree that he's the worst actor in the trilogy. But you haven't seen bad acting until you've seen Hugo Weaving's stunted, wooden, Shatner-esque performance at the end of this movie.

You dare disparage he who plays Elrond, founder of Rivendell, Lord of Imladris, Husband of Celebrian, son of Earendil & Elwing, son-in-law of Celeborn & Galadriel, father of Arwen, Elladan & Elrohir??

I looked that up, by the way.

That distracted me during the Two Towers also -- I kept waiting for him to leap down into a pack of orcs and open up a can of whupass with that hundred-hand slap he used in the original Matrix...
