A Little About Tropicana Las Vegas
"Hmmmnnn... I feel like I'm on the set of a Humphrey Bogart film and something smells like horse liniment..." Well you, my friend, must be at Tropicana, the official home of the blue-haired, oxygen-toting, slot playing retiree on the Las Vegas Strip. At least half of the weekday crowd here voted for Truman. The other half voted for Dewey. They patrol the Tropicana's smallish 60,000 square foot casino floor in packs, following the siren call of slot play bonuses and coffee shop comps. Tropicana has a total of 1,910 rooms between their two towers and the "garden rooms," which are the motel-looking structures out back. The garden rooms are perfect for the sort of grumpy old people who won't stay any place where they can't see their car.

If you can get past the clientele, the Trop actually has quite a bit going for it. Their best rooms, in the building called the Paradise Tower, are at least the equal of the standard rooms at the MGM or New York-New York, and feature some nice amenities. You can get jacuzzi suites at Tropicana for very reasonable prices. I'm told that some of the rooms in the Paradise Tower are also equipped with mirrors on the ceiling. Their pool is among the nicest in the city, and features swim-up blackjack on nice days. (Albeit with high limits and terrible rules) Once the old fogey crowd heads off to bed, the casino really picks up. While the rules are average ($5 limit, 3-4-5 odds), their craps dealers have a lot of personality and the cocktail service gets the job done. If you like casino collectables, check out the shop adjacent to the sports book.
