A Little About Desert Inn
The Desert Inn closed its doors on August 28, 2000. The venerable old casino, which had fallen on hard financial times, was purchased by former Mirage Resorts Chairman Steve Wynn in June of 2000. Wynn has big plans to build a new mega-resort on the property. The new resort is to be called "Le Reve" (French for "The Dream"). Very little is known about the project at this point. The recent downturn in the economy and an overall weak performance by high-end gaming properties has put the future of the project in some doubt. Wynn did go through with the implosion of the old hotel towers in August of 2001, however.

After its closure, the Desert Inn was used to film the casino scenes in the Jackie Chan/Chris Tucker thriller Rush Hour 2.
