A Little About Gold Coast
Located on the other side of Interstate 15 from the Strip, the Gold Coast caters more to Las Vegas locals and visitors who drive from neighboring states than its touristy neighbor, the Rio. While it's theoretically possible to walk to the Gold Coast from the Strip, I wouldn't recommend it. The hotel has 750 rooms, which are supposed to be large and comfortable. The casino is relatively small, but has a very high ceiling that makes it feel larger. It's sort of like gambling in a high school gymnasium.

The Gold Coast is often criticized for having bland, uninspiring decor and generally lacking a coherent theme. The casino has a generally Country/Western theme, while the restaurants vary from Asian to Chinese to Mediterranean and the pool area has a tropical theme. If you're just looking for a comfortable, low-key place to play low-stakes table games for fun, the Gold Coast should be exactly what you're looking for. Be sure to ask your dealer about the cowboys, bulls, and other rodeo ephemera that adorn their chips. Some of the stories are pretty interesting. Pretty soon, you'll have all kinds of wild superstitions about what kind of chips to bet at what point in the game.
