A Little About Treasure Island
Ahoy, matey, hand over your gold and prepare to be underwhelmed. Like its sister property and next door neighbor, The Mirage, Treasure Island seems like a lot less than what you pay for. Its 2,900 guest rooms are smallish and light on amenities. If your kids were hoping to spend their vacation in some kind of nineteenth century high seas dream world, they will be very disappointed to find out that the pirate theme pretty much ends at the front entrance. The only exceptions are the gift shop and the skull doorknobs. (According to my sources, they don't come off easily!) The 90,000 square foot casino is essentially no different from any other Center Strip property. The limits are somewhat lower than Mirage, however, and the cocktail service is supposed to be the best of any MGM-Mirage property. (Which, as praise goes, is like saying somebody is the tallest extra in The Wizard of Oz...)

Treasure Island is home to Cirque du Soleil's amazing show Mystre. Although pricey at $80, Mystre is probably the single best performing arts show in Las Vegas. It features jugglers, acrobats, trapeze artists, clowns and dancers, all masterfully choreographed and set to beautiful, haunting music. Recently, Treasure Island has dismantled the famous "Battle of Buccaneer Bay" show that used to occur every ninety minutes in the lagoon in front of the hotel. Their new show, "Sirens of TI," runs three shows nightly in front of the hotel.
