A Little About The Mirage
The Mirage is an upscale hotel that is a favorite of celebrities and other VIPs. Many of Dennis Rodman's infamous nights in Las Vegas are said to have taken place here. The casino is decorated with a tropical/jungle theme. The reception area features a 20,000 gallon aquarium where you can watch sharks swim menacingly around while you wait to check in. The hotel has 3,049 rooms and casino has 100,000 square feet of floor space. The Mirage is home to the famous Las Vegas entertainers Siegfried and Roy and their magnificent white tigers. Several times per day you can see one of these beautiful cats prowling the atrium to the left of the main entryway. A family of Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins frolics in Mirage's multi-million gallon saltwater aquarium. There is also the Mirage volcano, which erupts in front of the hotel every fifteen minutes after nightfall. There is a free tram that connects Mirage to its sister property, Treasure Island.

Unfortunately for the budget-conscious traveler, everything about Mirage is very expensive. Ordinary double room rates run about $100 per night during the week and run as high as $250 per night on busy weekends. Tickets to see Siegfried and Roy will set you back $100. Even impressionist Danny Gans's tired, overdone shtick will set you back $100. Table minimums start at $5 when the place is completely deserted and escalate rapidly on crowded nights. Thanks to places like Venetian and Bellagio, Mirage is pretty far removed from the days when it was the class of the Center Strip, but they continue to price that way. Unless you just have a thing for guys in tight pants with ridiculous hair and goofy accents making big cats appear and disappear, you can take the same money up the street to Caesar's and have a much better time.
